All the sugar and twice the caffeine! I went and had the Positronic Emissions Tomography scan today. After 24 hours of absolutely no carbs, no sugar, no fruit, no caffeine, and then 16 hours of water only. Ick. They did a baseline CT, then took me to another room, where they started a glucose IV. Later, the tech (Ann) came over with a huge metal-covered syringe. This was the radioactive material, Fluorine 18, in a lead-cased syringe. Joy! According to Gary, Fluorine is not that interesting of an element. At least that's what he said at lunch when he looked it up on the periodic table on his PDA. (He's such a geek. I love him) But when extra neutrons are added to it (hence the 18) it makes the element unstable, hence radioactive, and it shoots off neutrons every now and again. And this is what I have processing through my kidneys and liver. SIGH. Anyhoo, after shooting me up with that stuff, I was put in a recliner with a blankie in a dark room and told to take a nap. Okay. Then, after about 45 minutes, I was taken to a rather cold room and placed on a table with my arms over my head and was scanned with radiograph waves for 55 minutes. I actually feel asleep again, and so did my arms. Now I have to call Dr. Dishner on monday to see if he got the results back yet. Everyone seems pretty sure this is going to be a case of Valley Fever (basically like a mono that scars your lungs) but I'll just wait until I can see the pictures, thank you very much. I don't care whether I supposedly do or don't fit a demographic. In my experience, disease don't give a holy rat's ass what your demographic is. But I was done at 10:30, so I was able to meet the hubby for lunch at our favorite dive, where I had a burger! On a BUN! With french fried POTATOES! With a caffeinated, FULL SUGAR COKE! I'm such a carb whore.
