Kaboom!
Monday, Dec. 03, 2007 at 9:22 a.m.

Well, this weekend was supposed to be, like any other weekend, slightly lazy with some nice resting time, interspersed with normal activities, like laundry, boffing,a nd some light housecleaning. Saturday started out well enough with the aforementioned activities. Saturday evening, we decided to go out to a sports bar for some dinner to watch some of the Duel in the Desert, the yearly battle between the University of Arizona and Arizona State University. Hubster is not only from Tucson but got his two degrees at the University of Arizona, so getting all humpty regarding this yearly event is ingrained into his mitochondrial DNA.

Not that theres anything wrong with that. Im from the south . . .sorry, the South, where the Prime Directive seems to be God, Momma, and Football. Furthermore, I attended the University of Alabama (yes, by choice, for heavens sakes) and I am well-versed in the compulsory negative attitude towards Auburn University (a fine school in many ways, but their football team must always suffer horribly)

So anyway, Hubster (proudly wearing his very gaudy Arizona shirt that his Momma had made for him) and I (wearing no team colors whatsoever, being as nonpartisan as possible) went out to a sports bar, ate burgers, and watched the first half of the game. We only stayed for the first half, as we were both completely logged up with caffeinated soda and we felt like going to sleep sometime in the near future. Arizona was losing to the Sun Devils at that point anyway. When we pulled up into our driveway, we noticed that the concrete was wet, which, in the normal scheme of things, would be unusual, since we live in a desert and it never rains here anyway. However, we had actually had two days of rain and were glad to have it. So the water on the driveway didnt cross our minds as unusual, what did cross our minds as unusual was when Hubster clicked open the garage door and a short wall of water came pouring out towards us!

Hubster was already out of the car and running to turn off the water main before I could finish saying Oh dear, thats very odd (one of my many talents, you know, stating the perfectly and painfully obvious). Once the water was turned off, we went into the garage and stood about for a while puzzling over this:

The bottom heater coil connection had rusted out, so there was literally an explosion of water in our garage! So Hubster and I (after both of us having tinkled, first things first, after all!) spent the rest of the evening sweeping out water and moving things out of the path of the deluge. We did have some seepage into the house, but not too bad. Hubster spent most of the day yesterday (with his favorite tool, the roto-zip saw) cutting out chunks of wet drywall. A water damage adjuster came through to inspect the damage, and there wasnt enough damage to actually put in a homeowners claim. Which I suppose is good, but then we will be doing all the repairs ourselves. Hubster is burning one of his last use-or-lose vacation days today to repair drywall.

So right now we dont have hot water (which, of course, was the perfect excuse for me to go ahead and get my hair cut now instead of waiting for another week like I had planned) but the damage wasnt bad, no one was hurt, and we have a brand-spanking new water heater in our garage ready to install.

And to top it off, Arizona lost.

So how was your weekend?
